A metal-free, heterogeneous, inexpensive, and environmentally friendly graphene oxide-catalyzed aza-semipinacol rearrangement was developed to prepare various 2-(indol-2-yl)phenols and benzofuro[3,2-b]indolines in good to excellent yields.
