The catalytic activity of a wide range of copper salts, including Cu(I) and Cu(II), has been examined in the Cu-catalyzed three-component coupling reactions of sulfonyl azides, terminal alkynes, and amines, alcohols, or water to afford N-sulfonyl amidines, imidates, and amides, respectively. Furthermore, the investigation on the ligand effect in our protocol has revealed that certain types of ligands such as tris(benzyltriazolylmethyl)amine (TBTA) exhibited notable acceleration effects on the coupling reaction. The facile and efficient methods for removing copper salts from reaction mixture were also examined.

Palladium chloride anchored on polystyrene modified by 5-amino-1,10-phenanthroline was prepared and used as an efficient recoverable catalyst for Suzuki cross-coupling reactions. The heterogeneous catalysts can be easily separated from the reaction mixture and reused for five cycles without significant Pd leaching and loss of catalytic activity. Rate enhancement in the Suzuki reaction by Lewis acids was also studied.

A new graphdiyne-based carbon material was synthesized as an ideal substrate for electroless deposition and stabilization of sub-nanometric Pd catalysts, which showed extremely high catalytic activities for the reduction of nitroarenes and Suzuki coupling reactions.
