The increase in dermatophytoses and the fact that some patients do not respond well to therapy make it necessary to find new antifungal agents. As part of our ongoing studies on medicinal plants from Iran, we studied antidermatophytic activities of Ferula latisecta essential oil, which had shown considerable antifungal activity in preliminary antimicrobial screening. Antifungal activity was evaluated by determination of MIC values using the agar dilution method on type strains of Candida albicans and dermatophytes. The composition of the oil was characterized by GC and GC/MS analyses. The essential oil was rich in polysulfides (75.2%) and exhibited good activity against Trichophyton rubrum and T. verrucosom for about three weeks, with a MIC value 96 μg/mL. The oil showed antifungal activity, especially against dermatophytes, and the activity is probably related to the sulfur-containing components of the oil. This study has identified that the polysulfides-rich essential oil of Ferula latisecta fruits has activity against a range of human pathogenic dermatophytes, justifying future clinical trials to validate its use as a therapeutic alternative for dermatophytosis.

The compositions on the basis of PVC, containing dioctyl phthalate as a plasticizer, complex thermal stabilizers – calcium and zinc stearates and adducts of thiophenol and ethanedithiol with gemdiglycidyloxymethylsubstituted cyclopropylvinyl ether as co-stabilizers and biocidal additives were developed. Thermal properties of the developed compositions were investigated and the influence of the synthesized sulfur-containing adducts on the thermal stability and color change of the compositions studied. The tests were carried out to reveal the antifungal activity of adducts in the structure of PVC compositions. It found that the chemical structure of adducts after introduction into the structure of compositions was not essentially changed. The compositions with the participation of adducts as co-stabilizers acquired improved indices on thermal stability, color stability and antifungal activity.

Abstract In recent years tetrazole scaffolds have been attracted interest in the field of synthetic and medicinal chemistry research. The unique structure of the tetrazole derivatives exhibits widespread applications in biology and technology. The close structural resemblance with carboxylic acid acts as a booster of the latter. Due to this diversified potential utilization, several methods are reported for the synthesis of tetrazole scaffolds. Here in this chapter, we describe the synthesis of chlorobenzyl-oxy-phenyl-ethyl-thio-1H-tetrazole derivatives ( 6a-p ). The newly synthesized derivatives are characterized by spectral characterization and screened for their antifungal activity. Among these, some of the newly synthesized compounds show potent antifungal activity.
