The crystalline to amorphous transformation which occurs as a result of interdiffusion of Au and La was first observed by Schwarz and Johnson. This study will examine the crystalline-amorphous-crystalline transformations in the formation of FeSi2.A layer of Fe was evaporated on Si wafers when the chamber pressure was below 10-6 torr. The samples were prepared for TEM by mechanical and chemical thinning with 6/7 nitric acid 1/7 hydrofluoric acid solution. The TEM was performed on the JEM 200 CX at Stony Brook.
