AbstractAn efficient, economic, and air-promoted metal-free method for direct arylation of benzoquinone with phenylhydrazines was developed. This approach leads to the formation of corresponding [1,1′-biphenyl]-2,5-dione derivatives as biological and pharmaceutical materials of interest in good yields, under mild reaction conditions, and at ambient temperature.

A metal-free direct C-H selenation of aniline derivatives via an iodine catalysed C-Se bond formation using diselenides as a selenium source at ambient temperature is described. A variety of aniline derivatives underwent regio-selective C-H selenation with different diselenides to afford the corresponding aryl selenoethers in good to excellent yields.

Abstract Two molecules, each including tris-2-amino-ethyleneamine (tren), have been produced using a Schiff’s base condensation and long-chain, aliphatic aldehydes. The syntheses are straightforward and can be run in air at ambient temperature. The ability of these molecules to complex with metal ions makes them good candidates for water remediation. The ability of these ligands to hold metal ions in 0.03 M non-aqueous solutions was unexpected. Their syntheses and characterization are discussed.
