This study reflects a national survey of 295 CACREP counselor educators regarding their understanding of and support for the 2009 CACREP standards revision. It also assessed respondents' opinions about the proposed number of program credits (48, 60, other) and internship hours (600, 900, other) based upon whether the community counseling and mental health counseling specialty tracks merge or remain separate. Results indicate a difference in opinions about the curricular changes that reflects a historic and continuing tension around counselor identity issues.

This analogue study examined client autonomy in euthanasia situations and its relationship to the clinical experience, religious values, and attitudes toward euthanasia of 83 mental health counseling students. Participants were much more supportive of client autonomy for a 77-year-old client than for a 25-year-old client seeking active euthanasia. No differences were found for passive euthanasia. Counseling student religiosity and clinical experience were significant predictors of support for client autonomy, with more religiosity and less clinical experience related to less support for the client's right to make this decision about ending life. These findings are discussed in light of professional ethics and the role of counselor values in working with clients.

This content analysis provides an overview of suicide articles published in 24 counseling journals between 1996 and 2016. A total of 78 articles were published, representing 0.74% of the total published literature within these journals. The Journal of Mental Health Counseling published the highest number of articles. In addition to the number of articles published during this 21-year period, the focus areas within suicide, the type of article (research or conceptual), and the type of research are identified. Results indicated the highest focus areas were in assessment, theory/attitudes toward suicide, and special populations. Implications such as increasing discussions of suicide, especially related to youth; incorporating theories of suicide into practice; and recommendations for counselor educators in teaching suicide are provided.
