Teaching a mathematics foundation course such as Discrete Mathematics for an information technology curriculum is always a challenge. The challenge may be identifying students  mathematical backgrounds early and then using different teaching techniques in the classroom. An even bigger challenge is that many topics have to be covered effectively in a short semester course. This paper provides a standard quantitative methodology for conducting an outcome assessment using Discrete Mathematics as a case study. It starts with creating an ABET accredited course outcome based on different learning levels. And then it shows how to design assessment instruments, how to determine the sample size, how to collect data and how to analyze and validate the data.

This article addresses the issues of career counseling and career‐based satisfaction. It is argued that taking a narrative approach to career counseling is both theoretically and practically justified. The article explores narrative theory in relation to career counseling and identity, and illustrates the central notions that arise from the theory, with a brief case study. It is concluded that a narrative approach to career counseling can assist clients who are uncertain about where to go next in their careers, particularly within the context of the boundaryless career.

Academic advisors can make important contributions in implementing curriculum development grants received by universities. Presented in case study form is the advising and orientation plan developed for a National Science Foundation grant to prepare future science and mathematics teachers. This plan discusses comprehensive recruitment strategies, a specially designed orientation course, off-campus retreats and field experiences, and academic advising and career counseling. The plan fostered a sense of community among students and faculty, as well as a commitment to the project. This contributed to the success of the project and could contribute to similar grants as well.
