AbstractA simple, rapid, sensitive and economic spectrofluorimetric method has been developed and validated for determination of some β-adrenergic blocking agents namely; betaxolol hydrochloride (BTX), carvedilol (CAR), labetalol hydrochloride (LBT), nebivolol hydrochloride (NEB) and propranolol hydrochloride (PRO). The method is based on the quenching effect of the cited drugs on the fluorescence intensity of eosin Y at pH 3.4 (acetate buffer). The fluorescence quenching is due to the formation of an ion-pair complex and was measured without extraction at 545 nm (λex. 301.5 nm). The factors affecting the formation of the ion-pair complex were carefully studied and optimized. Under the optimal conditions, the linear ranges for the relationship between the fluorescence quenching value and the concentration of the investigated drugs were 100-2500, 150-2500 and 50-2250 ng mL-1 for (BTX, CAR), (LBT, NEB) and (PRO) respectively. The method was validated according to ICH guidelines and was applied for determination of the cited drugs in pharmaceutical dosage forms with excellent recoveries. In addition, content uniformity testing of some commercial dosage forms was checked by the proposed method.

Chlordiazepoxide is considered one of most important sedative and hypnotic benzodiazepines drugs which is currently used all over the world with the increased rate of anxiety drugs. In this literature review, we will introduce the pharmacological action of this drug in addition to most of up-to-date reported methods that have been developed for determination of chlordiazepoxide in its pure form, combined form with other drugs, combined form with degradation products, and in biological samples. Most of the reported analytical methods will focus on spectroscopic, chromatographic and electrochemical techniques.

Abstract A rapid, simple and economical spectrofluorimetric method for the determination of diclofenac potassium in pure form, in pharmaceutical preparations and in human plasma has been developed. The method is based on the enhancement of the fluorescence signal of diclofenac potassium by the addition of sodium dodecyl sulphate in McIvaine buffer with a pH of 5. Different experimental conditions such as buffer type, pH, type and concentration of surfactants were investigated. The fluorescence intensity of the solution was recorded at 361 nm after excitation at 243 nm. The method shows linearity in the concentration range of 0.2 μg mL–1–10 μg mL–1 with a good correlation coefficient of 0.997. The relative standard deviation value was 3.62 (n = 7). The limit of detection and limit of quantification were calculated to be 2.84 × 10–3 μg mL–1 and 9.47 × 10–3 μg mL-1, respectively. The effect of excipients and co-administrated drugs was investigated and no interference was observed. The method was successfully applied for the determination of diclofenac potassium in pure form, in pharmaceutical products and in human plasma. The percentage recoveries obtained ranged from 100.25% to 102.16% for pure form and 97.50% to 102.00% for pharmaceutical products and from 98.50% to 101.67% for human plasma.
