The optimal management of bifurcation lesions has received significant interest in recent years and remains a matter of debate among the interventional cardiology community. Bifurcation lesions are encountered in approximately 21% of percutaneous coronary intervention procedures and are associated with an increased risk of major adverse cardiac events. The Medina classification has been developed in an attempt to standardise the terminology when describing bifurcation lesions. The focus of this article is on the management of the Medina 0,0,1 lesion (‘Medina 001’), an uncommon lesion encountered in <5% of all bifurcations. Technical considerations, management options and interventional techniques relating to the Medina 001 lesion are discussed. In addition, current published data supporting the various proposed interventional treatment strategies are examined in an attempt to delineate an evidence-based approach to this uncommon lesion.

Management of orofacial pain in the general population can be a challenging and demanding undertaking due to the complex neurological anatomy and close proximity to vital structures. Differentiating various syndromes and origins of pain can prove difficult; thus, specific emphasis on establishing the correct diagnosis is of the utmost importance in formatting a successful treatment plan. The questions in this chapter delve into the presentations, physical exam findings, diagnostic testing, psychological effects, and evidence-based medical and interventional treatment algorithms of both common and less common craniofacial pain disorders. This chapter covers pathophysiology of the neurological, biomechanical, and central causes of facial pain.

Neuropathic pain can burden patients in multiple domains. It is a complex pain syndrome that remains difficult to treat. Detailed history and physical examination would reveal patients with neuropathic conditions complaining of burning, shocklike pain. There are a variety of neuropathic pain conditions that can be considered in a differential diagnosis. Because patients with neuropathic pain fail to obtain satisfactory relief from pharmacologic agents alone, a multidisciplinary approach that includes preventative and interventional options is recommended. Interventional treatment options may offer relief to patients with refractory neuropathic pain. Success in the treatment of neuropathic pain depends on evidence-based medicine and individualized patient care.

Purpose: This review contrasts the U.S. and Chinese mainland in terms of educational technology programs’ effects on mathematics achievement. The existing evaluation studies are assessed and compared, especially from the perspective of research quality. Moreover, this review finds out what intervention programs work in these two countries and classifies evidence levels of effective programs. Design/Approach/Methods: A systematic review and meta-analysis method is used. Findings: The application of educational technology programs produced a better effect in Chinese mainland than in the U.S., however, the quantity and quality of evaluation studies is concerning in Chinese mainland. Since 2010, four programs in the U.S. and one program in Chinese mainland have qualified for strong evidence of effectiveness, which are worthy of receiving scale-up grants. Originality/Value: This is the first systematic review to contrast the U.S. and China in terms of educational technology programs’ effects on mathematics achievement. Determining what works through high-quality experiments is probably the most important requirement for evidence-based reform in education. This review compares the developments of the U.S., a leader of the movement, with those of China, an undecided observer. The review may provide enlightenment for the undecided countries and regions.
