Congestion is an un-avoiding issue of networking, and many attempts and mechanisms have been devised to avoid and control congestion in diverse ways. Random Early Discard (RED) is one of such type of algorithm that applies the techniques of Active Queue Management (AQM) to prevent and control congestion and to provide a range of Internet performance facilities. In this chapter, performance of RED algorithm has been measured from different point of views. RED works with Transmission Control Protocol (TCP), and since TCP has several variants, the authors investigated which versions of TCP behave well with RED in terms of few network parameters. Also, performance of RED has been compared with its counterpart Drop Tail algorithm. These statistics are immensely necessary to select the best protocol for Internet performance optimization.

The nonlinear time-delay fast active queue management scalable transmission control protocol model was studied in this article. By analyzing the boundedness properties for solution trajectory of the fast active queue management scalable transmission control protocol model, the iterative relations of fast active queue management scalable transmission control protocol trajectory bounds were obtained. Furthermore, we calculated the maximum growth direction of the delay term in the integral interval and applied the backward method to calculate the lower conservative bound corresponding to each time of the delay term. Therefore, the global stability parameter condition of fast active queue management scalable transmission control protocol, which was less conservative than the existing global stability conditions, was obtained in this article. The validity of the stability conditions obtained in this article was verified by NS-2 simulation experiment.

This paper deals with the problem of guaranteed cost control for a class of nonlinear networked control systems (NCSs) with time-varying delay. A guaranteed cost controller design method is proposed to achieve the desired control performance based on the switched T-S fuzzy model. The switching mechanism is introduced to handle the uncertainties of NCSs. Based on Lyapunov functional approach, some sufficient conditions for the existence of state feedback robust guaranteed cost controller are presented. Simulation results show that the proposed method is effective to guarantee system’s global asymptotic stability and quality of service (QoS).

Perkembangan jaringan komputer yang pesat saat ini disertai pula dengan berbagai permasalahannya. Salah satunya adalah masalah kongesti. TCP (Transmission Control Protocol) merupakan protokol yang dapat mendeteksi kehilangan paket dan menginterpretasikan kehilangan tersebut sebagai indikasi telah terjadi kongesti pada jaringan. Makalah ini membahas tentang penghindaran kongesti dengan menggunakan mekanisme Active Queue Management (AQM). Langkah pertama yang dilakukan adalah membangun model matematika perilaku aliran TCP. Selanjutnya, menganalisis model tersebut sehingga masalah AQM dapat dipandang sebagai masalah kontrol umpan balik. Akhirnya, dengan menggunakan aproksimasi Pad� untuk masalah delay, kontrol umpan balik disimulasikan dengan menggunakan pengontrol proporsional�integral�turunan (PID) sebagai pengontrol AQM.Kata Kunci : kontrol umpan balik, AQM, kontrol kongesti end-to-end, aproksimasi Pad�, pengontrol PID

Most Internet traffic is carried by the Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) nowadays, even in the case of real-time services. Detecting and mitigating the congestion is one of the primary tasks of this protocol, in fact, different TCP versions are defined by their congestion control algorithms. Furthermore, Active Queue Management (AQM) algorithms share the same goal of congestion mitigation with TCP; in particular, the most efficient congestion control occurs when AQM and TCP work together. This paper presents a brief survey and a cross-comparison of the latest and most important TCP and AQM variants, then provides an evaluation of a different kind of performance on the ns-3 network simulator over various types of environments (multiple Round Trip Time, long delay, different congestion levels, etc.). In any shared bottleneck, the choice of the TCP-AQM couple to adopt is crucial. We will show that the results are not univocal and the “one size fits all” solution does not exist. Moreover, the proper couple depends on the performance that we want to boost and on the environment that we have to deal with.
