Data and analytics is the heart of a digital business platform. Today, big data (BD) becomes useful when it enriches decision making that is enhanced by application of analytical techniques and some element of human interaction. With the merging of data and information vs. knowledge and intelligence, this chapter investigates an opportunity for cross-fertilization between BD and the field of digital business with related disciplines. Primary BD and analytics platform is a set of business capabilities. This chapter aims to investigate the potential relationship of BD and analytics platform and digital business platform. In doing so, it develops a BD value chain framework, BD business model pattern (BDBMP) with related levels of BD maturity improvement. This framework could be used to find answers on the basic BD and digital business relationship questions.

Background and aims: Imaging studies have relied on the ‘overall’ volumetric quantification of perivascular adipose tissue. We sought to assess the relationship of circumferential distribution between perivascular adipose tissue and adjacent wall thickness of carotid and aortic arteries using dedicated magnetic resonance imaging sequences. Methods: Vessel wall and perivascular adipose tissue were acquired using magnetic resonance imaging (1.5 T). Co-registered images were segmented separately, and measurements of both perivascular adipose tissue and vessel wall were obtained along radii of the vessel spaced at angles of 5° each. Results: In total, 29 patients were recruited. Perivascular adipose tissue thickness of the aorta was 3.34 ± 0.79 mm with specific pattern of ‘double peaks’ distribution, while carotid perivascular adipose tissue had no identifiable pattern with thickness of 0.8 ± 0.91 mm. Although statistically significant, the correlation between perivascular adipose tissue thickness and wall thickness in carotid arteries with normal (r = 0.040, p = 0.001) or with abnormal wall thickness (r = –0.039, p = 0.015) was merely nominal. Similarly, perivascular adipose tissue of the aorta had very weak correlation with normal aortic wall thickness (r = 0.010, p = 0.008) but not with the abnormal ones (r = −0.05, p = 0.29). Conclusion: Dissociation between the spatial distribution of perivascular adipose tissue and arterial wall thickening in the aorta and carotid arteries does not support that perivascular adipose tissue has a causal role in promoting atherosclerotic plaque via a paracrine route. Yet, perivascular adipose tissue functional properties were not examined in this study.

Fe-, Ni-, and alloyed FeNi-filled carbon nanotubes (Fe@CNT, Ni@CNT, and FeNi@CNT) were prepared by a general strategy using a mixture of xylene and dichlorobenzene as carbon source, and ferrocene, nickelocene, and their mixture as catalysts. By tailoring the composition of the carbon precursor, the filling ratio and the wall thickness of metal@CNT could be controlled. For the catalytic oxidation of cyclohexane in liquid phase with molecular oxygen as oxidant, the highest activity was obtained over Fe@CNT synthesized from pure dichlorobenzene. However, Ni filling did not improve the activity of CNTs. The effects of metal filling, wall thickness, and defects on catalytic activity were investigated to determine the structure–activity relationship of the filled CNTs. The enhanced catalytic performance can be attributed to a combined contribution of thin walls of CNTs and confined electron-donating metals, which are favourable to electron transfer on the surfaces of CNTs. The modification of the electronic structure of CNTs upon Fe and Ni fillers insertion was elucidated through density functional theory calculations.

The potential relationship of the uniflagellate hyphochytrids with biflagellate stramenopiles is still not clearly resolved. Thus, we have expanded the number of isolates and taxa of hyphochytrids compared. The phylogenetic analysis of the small subunit ribosomal RNA sequence of Rhizidiomyces apophysatus Zopf based on neighbour-joining and parsimony methods showed that Hyphochytrium catenoides Karling and R. apophysatus are monophyletic and probably the closest relatives of the oomycetes. Our data also confirmed the monophyly of the stramenopiles, which includes heterokont algae along with nonphotosynthetic fungallike organisms, namely the Oomycota, Hyphochytriomycota, and Labyrinthulomycota.Key words: Hyphochytriomycota, heterokont algae, phylogeny, small subunit ribosomal gene.
