There are many types of coasts classifications that indicate main coastal features. As a rule, the "static" state of the coasts is considered regardless of their evolutionary features and ways to further transformation. Since the most part of the coastal zone studies aimed at ensuring of economic activity, it is clear that the classification of coast types should indicate total information required by the users. Accordingly, the coast classification should include the criterion, characterizing as dynamic features of the coast and the conditions and opportunities of economic activity. The coast classification, of course, should be based on geomorphological coast typification. Similar typification has been developed by leading scientists from Russia and can be used with minimal modifications. The authors propose to add to basic information (geomorphological type of coast) the evaluative part for each coast sector. It will include the estimation of the coast changes probability and the complexity of the coast stabilization for economic activity. This method will allow to assess the dynamics of specific coastal sections and the processes intensity and, as a result – the stability of the coastal area.

Use and occupation of the coastline in the municipalities of Tibau and Grossos (RN): Mechanism for integrated coastal management A B S T R A C TThe coastal regions are extremely dynamic environments and add different values. Therefore, the aim this paper was to characterize the use and occupation of the coastal zone of the municipalities Grossos and Tibau (RN). For this, the classification of the coastal zone was carried out according to the concepts of the Orla project, and quantification of the occupation. The results showed that the coastal zone of both municipalities have strong anthropic interference, presenting classes of coastal zone A, B and C. The classes found showed the following values: 47%, in the urbanization process, 45% not urbanized and 8% with urbanization consolidated. Thus, it is concluded that the area needs a plan of land use and occupation that is conceived through social control, so that an integrated management of the coastal zone. Keywords: Coastal management, urbanization, sustainability.

Abstract. As an eye-catching issue, rogue waves have been undergoing different stages from theory to practice gradually, whose occurrence always brings about severe threat to not only ships and sailors but also coastal structural integrity. Due to the scarce wave observations in coastal zone and meager study in Mainland China, the discussion specifically aimed at observed coastal rogue waves in China was at elementary stage. Based on the measured data from Xiangshui station of Jiangsu, China, the characteristics including occurrence probability and nonlinearity are investigated, which is a supplement to the previous research works. Surprisingly, the outcomes tend to refute rather than confirming some of the traditional conceptions about rogue waves. A new concept for the classification of coastal rogue waves is proposed afterwards.

The main engineering geology problems of the coastal zone around Ancient Abdera together with their causes are examined in this paper. The area studied extends from the coastal settlement of Mirodatc» up to the coastal settlement of Mandra, Xanhti prefecture, N. Greece. A geomorphology classification of coasts of the area is presented and maps of the ground inclination and geotechnical zone are constructed. The main geotechnical problems of the area appear to be: inundation of much of the area during winter period; foundation settlement; shallow water table; pollution of the groundwater and arbitrary construction in environmentally protected zones. The area of study gets special interest due to its continues human habitation since the 8 th B.C. century. As it has come but from archaeological and sentimentology studies, the Abdera bay has suffered (long shore bar) and land (torrents, load) results in quick filling in the ancient harbors, making them in navigable and forcing the habitants to more their harborworks further south to deeper sea water.

The article discusses the problem of complex hydrogeological conditions in the coastal zone of Wolin Island in Poland. Hydrogeological situation of the island was imaged by geoelectrical methods. Groundwater of the coastal zone is in constant contact with the saline sea waters. This fact constitutes a threat of groundwater degradation and has an influence on the methods of groundwater protection. The resistivity of Quaternary permeable and impermeable deposits is significantly different in areas where groundwater is characterized by low values of total dissolved solids (TDS). This implies that hydrogeological classification of the results obtained from electrical resistivity tomography (ERT) is not difficult. In the study area, the situation is completely opposite and much more complicated because of salty sea water ingress into aquifers. This affects the resistivity values of permeable and impermeable deposits, obtained from geophysical tests.

In the paper, the results of the calculation of turbidity transport in Dinh An coastal area by using the software named RDPOL based on random walk techniques developed by CMERCS are presented. In previous study, the carried out numerical model has been verified well by remote sensing images for classification of the turbidity distribution of Red, Thai Binh, Han, Thu Bon, Sai Gon - Dong Nai and Mekong estuaries. In this study, computed results, that the complexity of the bathymetry, the river flow of the Mekong River system and seasonal monsoon winds are taken into account, are compared with the observed data at 19 stations including 10 stations in March and 9 stations in October, 1997 in Dinh An coastal zone and show its reasonable agreement. Some maps of turbidity distribution in the area have been carried out and several remarks have been made.
