In the present paper, we followed to determine the metal content in some different types of flour obtained from different wheat species, and in several pastes that contain flour made out of the Triticum aestivum, Triticum durum si Triticum spelta wheat species in their basic composition. In order to do this we have analyzed 10 samples: 2 flours and 8 pastes harvested from random stores, belonging to different local and foreign manufacturers. In the same time, we tryed to identify the wheat species used to produce the pastes, analyzing them depending on the metal content. The determination has been realysed using the atomic absorption spectrophotometric method, the analyzed metals being: Cu, Zn, Mn, Fe, Ca, Mg, K şi Na.

Abstract In this new method for precise and accurate determination of K, Ca, Mg, and Zn in platelets, small amounts of platelets, prepared by differential centrifugation and cell washing, are decomposed in a homemade mini-vessel, a sealed Teflon bomb. The metal ions in the decomposed sample are measured by atomic absorption spectrometry with discrete nebulization. Overall, CVs ranged from 0.8 to 4.8%. We investigated sex-related differences (none were found) and intra-individual variations.

Abstract A collaborative study was conducted on the 'atomic absorption spectrophotometric method for measuring the concentration of copper in alcoholic products. In this method, the samples are aspirated directly into the burner of the instrument, and the absorhance values are converted to ppm copper by reference to a standard curve. Data show good precision and are comparable to those obtained by the ZDBT method. It is recommended that the atomic absorption method be adopted as official, first action.

Determination of Lead in Croatian Wines by Graphite Furnace Atomic Absorption SpectrometryA method has been developed for direct determination of lead in wine by graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry (GFAAS) with Zeeman-effect background correction. The thermal behaviour of Pb during pyrolysis and atomisation stages was investigated without matrix modifier and in the presence of Pd(NO3)2, Pd(NO3)2+ Mg(NO3)2× 6H2O, and NH4H2PO4+ Mg(NO3)2× 6H2O as matrix modifiers. A simple 1:1 dilution of wine samples with Pd(NO3)2as a matrix modifier proved optimal for accurate determination of Pb in wine. Mean recoveries were 106 % for red and 114 % for white wine, and the detection limit was 3 μg L-1. Within-run precision of measurements for red and white wine was 2.1 % and 1.8 %, respectively. The proposed method was applied for analysis of 23 Croatian wines. Median Pb concentrations were 33 μg L-1, range (16 to 49) μg L-1in commercially available wines and 46 μg L-1, range (14 to 559) μg L-1in home-made wines. There were no statistically significant differences (P<0.05) in Pb concentration between commercial and home-made wines or between red and white wines.

Abstract An atomic absorption spectrophotometric method for determination of polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) residues In pineapple juice was collaboratively studied by 9 laboratories. PDMS residues are extracted from pineapple Juice with 4- methyl-2-pentanone and the extracted silicone Is measured by atomic absorption spectrophotometry using a nitrous oxide/ acetylene flame. Collaborators analyzed 5 samples Including 1 blind duplicate. Reproducibility relative standard deviations (RSDR) were 13.1% at 31 ppm, 6.9% at 18 ppm, 14.8% at 7.9 ppm, and 16.1 % at 4.9 ppm PDMS. The method has been approved Interim official first action by AOAC.
