Polymers and organic materials that are exposed to sunlight undergo photooxidation, which leads to deterioration of their physical properties. To allow adequate performance under outdoor conditions, synthetic polymers require additives such as antioxidants and UV absorbers. A major problem with optimising polymer formulations to maximise their working life span is that accelerated weathering tests are empirical. The conditions differ significantly from real weathering situations, and samples require lengthy irradiation period. Degradation may not be apparent in the early stages of exposure, although this is when products such as hydroperoxides are formed which later cause acceleration of oxidation. A simple way of quantifying the number of free radicals presents in organic materials following exposure to light or heat is by measuring chemiluminescence (CL) emission. Most polymers emit CL when they undergo oxidative degradation, and it originates from the bimolecular reaction of macroperoxy radicals which creates an excited carbonyl.

Since the growth of single layer of Si has emerged, silicene became a potential candidate material to make up the disadvantage of graphene. In this paper, the complex surface conductivity is applied to characterize the properties of silicene and we investigate the optical characterization of silicene-dielectric interfaces from IR to far UV range. The silicene-Si and silicene-Ge interfaces along both parallel and perpendicular polarization directions of electromagnetic field with normal incidence are considered in this work. The optical properties of the silicene-dielectric systems proposed in this paper lay a foundation for the performance of complex silicene-based optoelectronic devices such as sensors, detectors, filters, UV absorbers and so on.

The migration rules of two triazine type of UV absorbents (UV-1577 and UV-1579) from polypropylene (PP) food contact materials to food simulant were investigated. A rapid detection method of UV-1577 and UV-1579 in PP food contact materials was established by ultra-performance convergence chromatography (UPC2). The optimal extraction method of the initial solution was determined, and the pretreatment methods of two UV absorbents in the liquid simulants were optimized. Experiment results showed that the interaction effects between the two UV absorbers and the liquid simulants were weak, and the migration behavior was the most obvious in the fatty simulant of isooctane. At the same temperature, the migration amount of both UV-1577 and UV-1579 increased with the extension of time, and UV-1577 was more prone to migration than UV-1579. Within a certain range, the migration amount of the two UV absorbents increased significantly with the increase of the migration temperature. The higher the temperature was, the shorter the time required to reach the equilibrium.
