Deprotonation of neutral arachno-4,5-C2B7H13 (1) either with 1, 8-(NMe2)2C10H6 (proton sponge, PS) or with a mixture of aqueous K2CO3 and [NMe4]Cl leads to the isolation in high yield of the [arachno-4,5-C2B7H12]- anion (2). Isostructural with this anion is the ligand derivative exo-6-(MeNC)-arachno-4,5-C2B7H11 (3), which is prepared in 20% yield from the reaction between arachno-4,5-C2B7H13 and MeNC in dichloromethane. Under comparable conditions compound 1 with tertiary amines gives the first representatives of the nine-vertex hypho family of dicarbaboranes, the ligand derivatives exo-5-(NR3)-hypho-4,9-C2B7H13 (4a and 4b, where R = Me and Et, respectively) in moderate yields (20 - 55%), whereas the reaction between 1 and aqueous NaCN results in the selective removal of one boron vertex to yield the eight-vertex [hypho-7,8-C2B6H13]- anion (5) in 61% yield. All compounds isolated were characterized by 11B and 1H NMR spectroscopy, with two-dimensional and selective decoupling techniques giving unambiguous assignments.

The identity of the 2-(4-Methyl-2-phenyl-4,5-dihydrooxazol-4-ylmethyl)-isoindole-1,3-dione, previously synthesized in our laboratory, was proven without doubt by means of 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopy. Two-dimensional NMR spectroscopy played a major role. The analysis of the 2D-COSY spectrum of isoindoline-1,3-dione derivative shows a perfect correlation between neighboring protons. Thus, a correlation was noted between the protons of the phthalimide, H(8) and H(9) on the one hand and H(8') and H(9') on the other hand. The analysis of the 2D-HSQC spectrum of the studied compound indicates a faultless correlation between protons and adjacent carbons, and no correlation in the case of all quaternary carbons.

AbstractThe inorganic ring system linked to the [Cr(CO)5] fragment [R = tBu (1), NH2 (2)], has been studied by reverse two-dimensional, 2D, 1H{15N} NMR spectroscopy. In solution, the exchange of the N-H hydrogen atoms is slow on the NMR time scale. Chemical shifts δ(1H), δ(13C), δ(31P), δ(15N) and coupling constants 1J(31P1H), 2J(31P13C), 1J(31P15N) are reported. In the case of 2, the reduced coupling constants 2K(31PN1H) and 1K(31P15N) have the same sign.
