Lignin depolymerization through an oxidation method could provide value-added products, but it is challenging in terms of recovering catalysts or separating products in time to avoid over-oxidation. In this study, a process of selectively oxidative degradation of lignin model compounds was operated in a two-phase reaction system. Lignin model compounds of 4-benzyloxyphenol (PBP) or guaiacylglycerol-β-guaiacyl ether (GGE) in a bottom phase of 1-butyl-3-methylimidazole chloride ([BMIM]Cl) ionic liquid were selectively oxidized by H2O2 in the presence of a solid acid (SO42-/Fe2O3-ZrO2), and the degradation products immediately diffused into the upper organic solvent phase (butyl acetate). In this kind of reaction system, the yield of the products was improved due to the prolonged life of ∙OH in ionic liquid, and the product selectivity was maintained due to the timely product separation, and the ionic liquid and the catalyst were easily recycled.

A large part of the wastewater generated by the Chemical and Transformation Industries are discharged with the presence of organic pollutants, in many cases they contain refractory organic compounds such as formaldehyde in a very low concentration for their recovery to be profitable, but it is high enough for to constitute a source of important pollution, which causes a loss of biodiversity and retards sustainable development. In the present work, the elimination of formaldehyde by the catalytic wet oxidation reaction is evaluated as part of the tertiary treatment of aqueous effluents in a three-phase reaction system, using copper and cobalt mixed oxides catalysts supported in alumina (alpha phase), the results of the characterization of the catalyst used are also shown, by conventional techniques.

The asymmetric reduction of ethyl 4-chloro-acetoacetate (CAAE) to ethyl (R)-4-chloro-3- hydroxybutanoate (R-CHBE) biocatalysed by the aldehyde reductase of Sporobolomyces salmonicolor expressed in E. coli M15 (pQE30-alr) in combination with regeneration of NADPH by the glucose dehydrogenase of Bacillus megaterium expressed in E. coli M15 (pQE30-gdh) was reported. The bioreduction was carried out in a two-phase reaction system with n-butyl acetate as an organic solvent. Bioconversion of 300 mmol CAAE with a final yield of 97.5 % and an enantiometric excess of 99 % was achieved without the addition of cofactor NADPH.
