Majority of the humanity is living in the cities. Cities have adverse environmental impact. Their environmental footprints need to be reduced. As the world's living conditions deteriorate, the survival of the humanity depends on the precautions taken. These precautions can include sustainable living styles, new technologies, and circular economy principles. Furthermore, climate change caused disasters can have adverse consequences as they can be deadly and as they can result in economic loss. The cities need to be resilient so that disasters adverse consequences can be reduced and the post-disaster phase rescue and recovery processes can be effectively carried out. Circular, smart and connected cities based on the new technologies such as big data, Information and Communication Technology (ICT), and Internet of Things (IoT) can contribute to the cities' sustainability and resilience performance. This chapter aims to investigate the roles of big data, IoT, ICT, as well as circular, connected and smart cities in enhancing sustainability and resilience of the cities. With this aim, based on the literature review, this chapter covers: need for, pillars of and aspects of smart, sustainable, circular, and resilient cities as well as ways for transforming the cities into smart, sustainable, circular, and resilient ones. This chapter can be beneficial to the researchers, academics, construction professionals, and policy makers. Keywords: Disaster; Internet of Things; Information and Communication Technology; Smart Cities; Big Data; Resilience; Building Information Modelling; Circular Cities; Circular Economy

This paper describes the use of a Linux embedded system for use in digital information and communication technology in order to generate image warnings using Internet of Things (IoT) prin- ciples. The proposed project generated a product, developed using concepts of project-based learning (ABP), called SECI (electronic internal communication system) that is accessed by students to view online warnings by distributed monitors and also by mobile devices connected to the Internet.

Educational Informatics is a multidisciplinary research area that uses Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in education. This article reports a wide overview about the new perspective of educational informatics that has been implemented in Latin America. This general view is the result of the different talks presented during the XIII Conference of Educational Informatics, organized by the Ibero-American Network of Educational Informatics RIBIE (Red Iberoamericana de Informática Educativa) in Colombia. These talks were proposed by international panelists from various parts of Latin America in the lines of ICT for Education and Peace, Thinking and Artificial Intelligence, Emergent Scenarios in Education and Mobiles Technologies and Apps for Entrepreneurship and Learning.

Disasters pose a real threat to the lives and property of citizens; therefore, it is necessary to reduce their impact to the minimum possible. In order to achieve this goal, a framework for enhancing the current disaster management system was proposed, called the smart disaster management system. The smart aspect of this system is due to the application of the principles of information and communication technology, especially the Internet of Things. All participants and activities of the proposed system were clarified by preparing a conceptual design by using The Unified Modeling Language diagrams. This effort was made to overcome the lack of citizens’ readiness towards the use of information and communication technology as well as increase their readiness towards disasters. This study aims to develop conceptual design that can facilitate in development of smart management system for flooding disaster. This will assist in the design process of the Internet of Things systems in this regard.

The internet has completely reconfigured social relationships. As information and communication technology continues to change and evolve in ways that were previously unimaginable, films like Spike Jonze’s Her seem not so far from future technological developments. The purpose of this paper is to depict how Jonze’s work does a substantive job in portraying the disconnection from the world individual undergoes when they overly depend on technology for affection and meaning. One may think the idea of an Artificial Intelligence (AI) becoming so personable as unachievable, however, most of our smart technology is already customized to suit our personal needs and gives us quick information such as Siri or Alexa. This paper discusses some relevant aspects of this problem.
