The controllable solvothermal synthesis of hollow nickel nanospheres was achieved via an assembly-then-inside-out evacuation process. The Ni/Pt hollow spheres exhibit high catalytic activities for the hydrolysis of ammonia borane.

Platinum hollow nanospheres, produced using polyelectrolyte-grafted SiO2 spheres as a sacrificial template through an appropriate reduction of preadsorbed PtCl62− ions, exhibit markedly enhanced electrocatalytic activity for methanol oxidation toward DMFC applications.
