1-D nanostructures, one comprising a porous Fe2O3/Se composite and one comprising hollow Fe2O3 nanorods, prepared by exploiting a nanoscale Kirkendall diffusion mechanism, exhibited superior electrochemical properties for Li-ion storage.

The heteroatom S is successfully doped into the surface carbon layer of Li3V2(PO4)3 composites, and could produce defects and break the electroneutrality of the carbon-coated layer. As a result, S-doped carbon-coated Li3V2(PO4)3 materials exhibit improved electrochemical properties.
