Influence of electron beam irradiation on the morphology and contact angle of polypropylene was investigated. Electron beam processing was carried out at 8 – 10 kV accelerating voltage and a pressure of 5 – 10 Pa. Beam current density was up to 4.5 A/cm2, and the pulse duration - from 150 to 300 μs. The morphology of irradiated polymer material was studied by scanning-electron and atomic-force microscopy methods. It was established formation of extended equally oriented “hills” divided by “valleys”. The height of hills increases with the growth of energy flux density per pulse.

The studies of correlation between magnetic properties and microstructure were conducted on samples of lithium-substituted ferrite, sintered in radiation and radiation-thermal conditions. Radiation-thermal sintering was performed for compacts irradiated with a pulsed electron beam with energy of (1.5–2.0) MeV, beam current per pulse of (0.5-0.9) A, irradiation pulse duration of 500 μs, pulse repetition rate of (5–50) Hz, and compact heating rate of 1000 C/min. Sintering in thermal furnaces (T-sintering) was carried out in a preheated chamber electric furnace. The paper shows that magnetic induction does not depend on the ferrite grain size. In this case, the coercive force is inversely proportional to the grain size and depends on the intragranular porosity of ferrite samples. In contrast to thermal sintering, radiation-thermal sintering does not cause capturing of intergranular voids by growing grains and enhances coagulation of intragranular pores.

Abstract This work investigates the processes of dissipation of the charge and energy of a pulsed electron beam in gas compositions (nitrogen, carbon dioxide and oxygen) in the presence of ammonium sulphate and nitrate. A pulsed electron beam generated by the TEA-500 accelerator (Tomsk, Russia) with an electron energy of up to 410 keV, a beam current of up to 5 kA (I0 ), and a half-amplitude voltage pulse duration of 60 ns was injected into a 46 cm long drift chamber filled with a gas mixture. The pulsed electron beam current (IFC ) passing through the drift chamber was registered using a sectioned calorimeter with beam charge monitor function, and the efficiency of the current passage of the beam was determined as the ratio qFC/q0 , where q0 is the beam charge measured at the place of its injection into the chamber drift. The pressure in the drift chamber varied (375, 560 and 760 Torr, humidity value 15% ± 5% and 50% ± 5%). The geometric dimensions of the plasma-chemical reactor for initiating plasma-chemical reactions of flue gas cleaning were determined.

The paper presents the results of the experimental investigation of the pulsed electron beam propagation propagated in a drift tube filled with oxygen. The pressure was 50, 300, and 760 Torr in the drift tube. The experiments were carried out using a TEA-500 pulsed electron accelerator (450 kV accelerating voltage; 10 kA electron beam current; 80±1 ns pulse duration to the base; up to 200 J pulse energy; and 5 cm diameter beam). The electron beam was propagated in the drift tube (40 cm long), 14 cm in diameter composed of two sections equipped with two reverse current shunts. The experiments were carried out which fixed the absorbed dose registered on the walls of the drift chamber.

ABSTRACTThe effects of pulsed electron beam irradiation (pulse width 50 ns FWHM, electron eneries from 15 to 30 keV and current density in the range of 100 to 2300 A/cm2 ) on Al-Pb systemsprepared by vacuum evaporation of Pb layers from 500 Å to 2000 Å in thickness over Al single crystals have been investigated by Rutherford backscattering (RBS) and scanning electron microscopy.The main effects consist in a Pb loss which shows definite features as a function of the incident beam current density and in a mixing of Pb into Al which is unambiguously detected by a selective chemical etching of Pb still unreacted after irradiation.These experimental results are discussed on the basis of some heat flow model calculations which use Monte-Carlo data for the electron depth dose function.
