The Difference

The accurate expression of bracket prescription is important for successful orthodontic treatment. The aim of this study was to evaluate the accuracy of digital scan images of brackets produced by four intraoral scanners (IOSs) when scanning the surface of the dental model attached with different bracket materials. Brackets made from stainless steel, polycrystalline alumina, composite, and composite/stainless steel slot were considered, which have been scanned from four different IOSs (Primescan, Trios, CS3600, and i500). SEM images were used as references. Each bracket axis was set in the reference scan image, and the axis was set identically by superimposing with the IOS image, and then only the brackets were divided and analyzed. One-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used to compare the differences. The difference between the manufacturer’s nominal torque and bracket slot base angle was 0.39 in SEM, 1.96 in Primescan, 2.04 in Trios, and 5.21 in CS3600 (p < 0.001). The parallelism, which is the difference between the upper and lower angles of the slot wall, was 0.48 in SEM, 7.00 in Primescan, 5.52 in Trios, 6.34 in CS3600, and 23.74 in i500 (p < 0.001). This study evaluated the accuracy of the bracket only, and it must be admitted that there is some error in recognizing slots through scanning in general.

AbstractThe main purpose of this study is to elaborate anticorrosive coatings for the welded steel 316L, since this later is widely used in industrial field. Hence, within this work we have studied the electrochemical behaviour of different zones of the welded steel 316 in 1 M HCl media. The macrography study of the welded steel has revealed the different areas with a good contrast. We have stated three different zones, namely; melted zone (MZ), heat affected zone (HAZ) and base metal zone (BM). Impedance studies on welded steel 316L were conducted in 1 M HCl solution, coating of Epoxy/Alumina composite was applied on different zones, in order to reveal the anti-corrosion efficiency in each zone. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis was undertaken in order to check how far the used coating in such aggressive media protects the studied zones and these findings were assessed by water contact angle measurements. The choice of this coating is based on the cost and the safety. We concluded that the Epoxy/Alumina composite has a good protecting effect regarding welded steel in aggressive media.

A detailed theoretical analysis has been carried out to study efficient microwave assisted heating of thermoplastic (Nylon 66) slabs via polymer-ceramic-polymer composite attached with ceramic plate at one side. The ceramic layer or plate is chosen as Al2O3 or SiC. The detailed spatial distributions of power and temperature are obtained via finite element simulation. It is found that uniform heating with enhanced processing rate may occur with specific thickness of Al2O3 composite, whereas SiC composite leads to enhanced processing rate with higher thermal runaway for thick Nylon samples attached with Al2O3 plate. SiC composite is effective due to enhanced processing rate, whereas Al2O3 is not effective due to reduced processing rate for thin samples attached with Al2O3 plate. For samples attached with SiC plate, thermal runaway is reduced by SiC composite, whereas that is not reduced by Alumina composite. Current study recommends efficient heating methodologies for thermoplastic substances with ceramic composite to achieve a higher processing rate with uniform temperature distribution.
