Life cycle cost(LCC) is an important content of equipment integrated logistics support. While the LCC includes the whole life cycle of equipment from development, production, service and maintenance to retirement, in order to effectively manage and control the LCC and better develop integrated logistics support, it is necessary to analyze and predict it. The unbiased grey markov model(UGMM) was introduced into the LCC prediction in the paper, in order to check model accuracy, the posterior difference method(PDM) was used, also the influence by the number of state intervals in UGMM on the prediction accuracy is analyzed and studied. The result indicate that UGMM can be used to predict the LCC, also have the highest prediction accuracy comparing with unbiased grey model and grey separating model, and in order to ensure the prediction accuracy, the state interval should be divided according to the number of sequence.

Abstract In China, the oil and natural gas resources of Bohai Bay are mainly marginal oil fields. It is necessary to build both iceresistant and economical offshore platforms. However, there are many risks during the life cycle of offshore platforms due to the imperfect preliminary design for the Bohai Sea economical ice-resistant structures. As a result, the whole life-cycle design should be considered, including plan, design, construction, management and maintenance design. Based on the demand of existing codes and research of the basic design, structural ice-resistant performance and the reasonable management and maintenance, the life-cycle design theory is discussed. It was concluded that the life-cycle cost-effective optimum design proposed will lead to a minimum risk.

Fatigue strength dictates life and cost of welded structures and is often a direct result of initial manufacturing variations and defects. This paper addresses this coupling through proposing and applying the methodology of predictive life-cycle costing (PLCC) to evaluate a welded structure exhibiting manufacturing-induced variations in penetration depth. It is found that if a full-width crack is a fact, a 50% thicker design can result in life-cycle cost reductions of 60% due to reduced repair costs. The paper demonstrates the importance of incorporating manufacturing variations in an early design stage to ensure an overall minimized life-cycle cost.

PurposeThis paper proposes a new simultaneous optimization model of the industrial systems design and maintenance. This model aims to help the designer in searching for technical solutions and the product architecture by integrating the maintenance issues from the design stage. The goal is to reduce the life-cycle cost (LCC) of the studied system.Design/methodology/approachLiterature indicates that the different approaches used in the design for maintenance (DFM) methods are limited to the simultaneous characterization of the reliability and the maintainability of a multicomponent system as well as the modeling of the dynamic maintenance. This article proposes to go further in the optimization of the product, by simultaneously characterizing the design, in terms of reliability and maintainability, as well as the dynamic planning of the maintenance operations. This combinatorial characterization is performed by a two-level hybrid algorithm based on the genetic algorithms.FindingsThe proposed tool offers, depending on the life-cycle expectation, the desired availability, the desired business model (sales or rental), simulations in terms of the LCCs, and so an optimal product architecture.Research limitations/implicationsIn this article, the term “design” is limited to reliability properties, possible redundancies, component accessibility (maintainability), and levels of monitoring information.Originality/valueThis work is distinguished by the use of a hybrid optimization algorithm (two-level computation) using genetic algorithms. The first level is to identify an optimal design configuration that takes into account the LCC criterion. The second level consists in proposing a dynamic and optimal maintenance plan based on the maintenance-free operating period (MFOP) concept that takes into account certain criteria, such as replacement costs or the reliability of the system.

Energy storage providing auxiliary service at the user-side has broad prospects in support of national polices. Three auxiliary services are selected as the application scene for energy storage participating in demand management, peak shaving and demand response. Considering the time value of funds, the user-side energy storage economy model is built. The model comprehensively considers the delayed transformation income, the government subsidy income, the auxiliary service income and the whole-life-cycle cost factor. According to the cost and benefit analysis, an energy storage optimization configuration model is proposed. The model takes maximum revenue of industrial user in energy storage’s whole-life-cycle as the objective function. Then, the Cplex solver is employed to solve the model. In addition, four indexes are utilized to evaluate the financial effect brought by the user-side energy storage. Finally, the revenue and configuration results of the four types of battery energy storage are calculated to verify the validity of the proposed model. In comparison to the value of evaluation index, planning suggestions are provided for the user-side energy storage providing different auxiliary services. Moreover, the conditions of profit and worthwhile investment are obtained through sensitivity analysis of energy storage providing peak shaving service.
