Poly(4-vinylpyridine-co-divinylbenzene)-Co2+ was characterized using infrared spectroscopy (IR), thermogravimetric analysis (TG-DTA), N2-physisorption and polarography. Thermal analysis suggests sufficient thermal stability of the polymer support, under reaction conditions. From polarography measurements, the Co2+ content on polymer-supported catalysts is estimated and it was proved that no significant leaching occurred during the activity tests. At the molecular level, FTIR of P4VP-DVB-Co2+ reveals that the pyridine nitrogen lone pair coordinates to the metal center in the polymeric complex. The obtained P4VP-DVB-Co2+ catalysts performed interesting catalytic activity in reaction of the cyclohexane oxidation with air, indicating that increasing Co2+ content lowers the initiation temperature and raises the decomposition of cyclohexylhydroperoxide.

In the present study, a new compound was used for decontaminating water polluted by Congo Red dye. Phosphono-aminoacid-Cd(II) pendant groups grafted on a polymeric support was prepared using impregnation of a polymer support functionalized with phosphono-aminoacid groups with an aqueous solution of Cd(NO3)2x4H2O. The catalyst was characterized by Fourier transform infrared ray, scanning electron microscope, termogravimetric analysis UV-Vis spectroscopy. The results suggest that the studied material could efficiently be used as photocatalyst in the degradation process of waters containing organic dyes under UV-Vis light irradiation.

Low molecular weight chromogenic thrombin peptide substrates, p-nitroanilides of short peptides protected at their N-terminal amino group, were prepared by solid-phase peptide synthesis on polystyrene-divinylbenzene polymer with trityl groups with preliminary attached p-phenylene diamine moiety. After the cleavage from the resin peptide p-aminoanilides were mildly oxidized to p-nitroanilides with the mixture of potassium sulfate and persulfate. Adsorption onto polymer support Bio-Beads SM-2 with further elution by acetonitrile allowed easy separating peptide p-nitroanilides from the oxidizer and obtaining the thrombin chromogenic substrate preparations with the target substance contents of not less than 95% and yields of 30-40%. Thrombin effectively catalyzed hydrolysis of the prepared substrates with KM and Vmax values of 29-134 mM and 0.03-1/16 mM/s, respectively.
